gabrielleabelle: Mississippi Personhood Amendment
The reason I’m posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women’s Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later – on a Sunday – thanking me and noting that I’m one of the first “outside” people to contribute.
So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it.
If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it.

Daily Kos: Open Letter to that 53% Guy
Do you really want to live in a society where just getting by requires a person to hold down two jobs and work 60 to 70 hours a week? Is that your idea of the American Dream?
Do you really want to spend the rest of your life working two jobs and 60 to 70 hours a week? Do you think you can?
…the commitment we’ve made to the working class since the 1940s is something that we should both support and be willing to fight for, whether we are liberal or conservative. We should both be willing to fight for the American Dream. And we should agree that anybody trying to steal that dream from us is to be resisted, not defended. And while we’re defending that dream, you know what else we’ll be defending, kid? We’ll be defending you and your awesome work ethic. Because when we defend the American Dream we’re not just defending the idea of modest prosperity for people who put in an honest day’s work, we’re also defending the idea that those who go the extra mile should be rewarded accordingly.

Daily Kos: Occupy Wall Street roundup, Day 28
…a legal observer for the National Lawyers Guild was run over by police, then arrested and hospitalized. The New York City police have not done themselves many favors with their sometimes inexplicable treatment of protestors: if you’re going to run over someone, then arrest them for being run over, having it turn out to be an observer representing a national group of lawyers seems an especially bad bit of luck.

Daily Kos: Working Group in Solidarity with Occupy Wall Street
I propose that anyone who has an interest in contributing research to help the OWS group move their vision forward join this working group. If you want to be part of OWS but are too far away to join in this could be the group for you.
Right now, we have Charlie Grapski’s request for help. (See below) As we continue to post diaries, we will probably get other requests. I would like this to be a clearing house where people can go to find something to do to help. Many hands make light work.

Daily Kos: Federal appeals court blocks two sections of Alabama immigration law
The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals has issued a stay on parts of the Alabama immigration law and allowed others to stand. It stayed the provisions that required residents carry proof of lawful residency in the U.S. and that tracked the immigration status of newly enrolled students.

Daily Kos: Open thread for night owls: CNBC editor argues no one harmed by insider trading
In this episode of what the hell is wrong with you people, the senior editor of CNBC.com, the website of a network dedicated exclusively to business and finance and the markets and whatnot, argues that insider trading is a victimless crime and so a billionaire hedge fund manager being sent to prison for eleven years over it is really, really unfair.
Not kidding. This is what Occupy Wall Street is talking about. Not simply the crime, but the presumption of entitlement…

Hoaxes did not sprout up in 2006 when Twitter was invented. But social media has aided the spread and speed of bogus information.
