- Maybe Tomorrow: My new friend Sean Hunt, Violator of Community Standards
- We all joined in excitement and thought we had been welcomed by Google, only to have the welcome mat pulled out from under some of us. It is not a pleasant experience, and it is only being amplified with time.

- Google is gagging user advocates | Infotropism
- So, I’ve mentioned that while I was at Google (until July 15th) I disagreed strongly with the Google names policy. …
- To be clear, this is far worse than the prior restrictions Googlers had wrt confidentiality. Of course Googler’s can’t speak about forthcoming projects or other confidential matters, and they’d be silly to post anything too critical of the company if they wanted to keep their jobs. But now Google is preventing its staff from commenting at all on existing products/features/policies, or engaging with the user community in any way, even to quell FUD or share information. That’s scary.
- ETA: A couple of Googlers have told me that this gag isn’t universal, so it looks like it might apply only to those advocating on behalf of G users. In which case, I think that’s even worse.
- deepad: The politics of discussing illegal file-sharing
- I would like everyone to have the means of production and the mental, emotional and social support structure to creatively express themselves. I would like storytellers to be rewarded for telling me a good tale, whether they are writers or dancers or directors or illustrators. But I cannot see illegal file-sharing as anything but an inevitable response to the complex systems of unequal wealth distribution and political hierarchy that permeate the sphere of creativity as commerce.

- leupagus: (To Anyone Annoyed By A Woman: An Open Letter)
- Because “annoying” is when you get bitten by a mosquito, or a little kid won’t shut up about wanting ice cream, or getting stuck in traffic when you’re trying to get to the movies. Women aren’t annoying, because women aren’t obstacles that you need to get through in order to have a pleasant day. … You can argue that Kardashian perpetuates a stereotype when she publicly obsesses over her appearance and you can certainly talk about how harmful Palin’s rhetoric is to the national dialogue. But these things aren’t annoying, they’re legitimate problems. Calling these women “annoying” makes them into less than what they are — good or bad — and if you’re merely annoyed by someone like Anne Coulter, you’re really not paying attention.
