Pentagon Won’t Probe Veteran’s Death – Pulse of the Bay – The Bay Citizen
The Pentagon’s inspector general is refusing to investigate the May 2010 death of William Hamilton, an Iraq war veteran who stepped in front of a train hours after being discharged from a military hospital at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield.
…John Crane, the Defense Department’s assistant inspector general, said a probe was “carefully considered” but ultimately rejected due to a “lack of misconduct.”
[Congressman] McNerney had requested the investigation on behalf of…Hamilton’s parents, who were outraged their son was discharged from Travis despite being so delusional that he saw demon women and regularly talked to a man he had killed in Iraq.

Help SFMOMA Pick a New Logo – Culture Feed – The Bay Citizen
Culture Feed doesn’t just toss around the word “awesome,” so it is with a certain degree of magnitude that we declare the entries in SFMOMA’s logo redesign contest to be really, really awesome. …
The current winner is this kaleidoscopic offering with 81 votes, and we’re not saying it’s not nice, but we’ve got to throw our hat in the ring for the one with THE MISFITS SKULL AND THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE. …

Museum Wanted to Fire Guard Who Objected To Lesbian Hand-Holding – Culture Feed – The Bay Citizen
News broke Tuesday that a lesbian couple who attended the exhibit Seeing Gertrude Stein…had been approached by a guard who…told them they should leave. …
…the absurdity of telling a lesbian couple they shouldn’t hold hands at an exhibit celebrating the life of a famously out lesbian. …
After the guard reprimanded them, an indignant crowd gathered to defend them.
…the guard was asked to leave the museum… The museum wrote a letter to [the security contractor], expressing their unhappiness over the incident.
[1 - in a better world, we would take it for granted that the incident should never have happened and that the public defended the couple. So if this story makes you angry, I support you.
2 - my own overall reaction is to celebrate the parts of this which are good, which is why the "awesome" tag. I like it when I get to use that tag. -L]

Rep. Allen West Attacks Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz for being ‘vile’ and ‘not a Lady’
I don’t know if I should be taking deep breaths or if I should encourage Congressman West to. West clearly has proven with this personal attack on Wasserman Schultz that he can’t take a little heat on his unacceptable support for cuts in the social safety net which will definitely harm his reelection chances with the Florida electorate. Someone get this guy a tissue because he’s about to cry a river.
Wasserman Schultz responded to his email saying simply, “the truth hurts.” [link]

Allen West tirade: Wasserman Schultz ‘vile…despicable…not a Lady’ – Ben Smith – POLITICO.com
Florida GOP Congressman Allen West this afternoon dispatched a scathing personal email to Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, calling her “vile, unprofessional ,and despicable,” “a coward,” “characterless,” and “not a Lady,” and demanding that she “shut the heck up.”
Wasserman Schultz, in whose neighboring South Florida district West lives, provoked [sic] his tirade with remarks after he left the House floor today, in which she responded — without naming him — to [his] support for “Cut, Cap, and Balance” legislation to raise the debt ceiling.
[Next: the lurkers support him in email! -L]
