Budget Showdown and Government Shutdown Not About Abortion | Religion Dispatches
…it's about the rider that Republicans have attached to the budget preventing federal funds, including Medicaid funding for low-income women, from going to Planned Parenthood, which by law cannot be used for abortions anyway. The funding Republicans seek to cut is for family planning, cancer screenings, and sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment. …

The Republicans' latest budget shenanigans are part of a concerted campaign to agitate their base into believing Hyde is inadequate, that…taxpayer money paying for other aspects of reproductive health care is somehow morally equivalent to paying for abortion. …it's really about denying women access to the health care that provides the resources to make their own decisions about their reproductive futures.

GRAPHIC: Democrats Have Met Republicans More Than Halfway On Spending Cuts | Think Progress – Pat Garofalo
The original House Republican proposal for the rest of fiscal year 2011 called for about $30 billion in spending reductions … However, a Tea Party-inspired revolt forced Republicans to increase that total to $61 billion…

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said today that he would agree to $38 billion in cuts from the 2010 level, exceeding the level of cuts that the GOP asked for in its original proposal: [graph]

These include provisions preventing the District of Columbia from using its own local funds for abortions and crippling the EPA’s ability to regulate greenhouse gases. …

Link roundup – The Voice of the Resistance – adsartha
Here's the link to the Waukesha press conference re: discovery of 14K votes which put Prosser up by 7K.

…Bush recount in Florida? Legal team? SERIOUSLY? They're not even trying for looking legitimate anymore….

Also, does anyone else find it INCREDIBLY SUSPICIOUS that 7K votes is just about exactly the lead Prosser needed to force a recount that Kloppenburg will have to pay for? You can donate to the recount efforts here. [link]

And Nickolaus [who discovered that the alleged uncounted votes were uncounted] is closely tied to a number of Republicans, including apparently being a former employee of… drumroll, please? Prosser's.

…And coverage of the caucus scandal for which Nickolaus was granted immunity but led to her leaving her legislative position as a computer expert and running for county clerk.

…This guy makes the Republican case for why things need investigating. Hint: not taking office under a cloud of suspicion is good for WHOEVER won.
