- Poll: Americans Favor Collective Bargaining Rights for Unions
- [GOOD - Liz Dwyer]
The 2011 Wisconsin budget protests are heading into their third week and protesters continue to swarm the State Capitol in Madison in support of public employees' right to collective bargaining. … According to a just-released NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, when it comes to states being able to ask their teachers, firefighters, garbage collectors and police to pay more for their retirement, 68 percent say it's acceptable. When it comes to paying more for health care, 63 percent say public employees should do so, and when it comes to the state being able to freeze salaries for a year, 58 percent agree.
Given the tough economic times, the unions have already agreed to all of those demands. But they're not budging on collective bargaining, and it turns out that the majority of American's agree with them.

- EPA Study Again Shows The Benefits Of The Clean Air Act To U.S. Economy
- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) yesterday released its Second Prospective Report examining the benefits of the Clean Air Act amendments from 1990 up to 2020. The study confirms that the EPA’s clean air protections are not only vital for safeguarding the physical health and longevity of Americans, they are also extremely good for our economy. While the cost of implementing the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments was just $65 billion, the direct benefits from these protections are projected to reach almost $2 trillion for the year 2020.

- The Impeachment Of Clarence Thomas’ Credibility
- …while no US Supreme Court Justice in over two centuries has gone even a single term without speaking from the bench during arguments, Thomas has managed to do it for five in a row.
To quote Stephen Colbert, "the man is a rock…in that he could be replaced by a rock and I'm not sure anyone would notice."
…While he doesn't seem to even want to participate in his day job, Thomas certainly does engage in the kind of partisan politicking that is not only unseemly, but sets a terrible precedent in a democracy…
When they asked Saperstein what he thought of [Thomas's SCOTUS nomination], he replied that he thought, "it was an insult to every competent lawyer in America." He expected this notion to be met with an argument, but instead, every single member of this group agreed.

- While most of the people involved in right wing attack on contraception are sticking to the talking points (claiming it’s “fiscal conservatism” and conflating contraception/cancer screening/STD testing at Planned Parenthood with abortion), the excitement of finally having a shot at parting some of the poorest and most vulnerable women in the country from reproductive health care is getting a few Republicans a little bit excited. And the cat is coming out of the bag.

Are we supposed to believe that the US government is depending completly on CNN to tell them if bombs are being dropped and planes are strafing civilians? I'd say we're spending just a tad too much money on all that fancy technology if that's the best they can do. They don't even have phones?
