Hand-rearing Baby Numbats
[ZooBorns - Andrew Bleiman]

Numbats are termite-eating marsupials from Western Australia. Native Species Breeding Program (NSBP) keeper Dani Jose says this was the first time Numbats had been hand-raised from such a young age. “The babies hadn’t yet opened their eyes and weighed less than 15 grams. At this young age, they look quite different from adult Numbats. They hadn’t developed their stripes yet and their snouts were short and snubby,” Ms Jose says.

This diagram is a particularly instructive map, too: it neatly visualises the gaps and overlaps between all kinds of supranational institutions in Europe – differences which for the most part are too subtle for any but the most attentive observer.

Is Kirsten Powers mainstreaming an anti-contraception argument? Yes.
[Pandagon - Amanda Marcotte]

[Blah blah ad hominem about Powers being thin-skinned. -L]

…For the record, when pro-choice activists say “access”, we mean not only the legal right to buy it, but ability to afford it, the time to get it, and the social privileges to get yourself physically there to get it. …Powers supports the legal right to buy it, but she is overtly opposed to Title X [funding] to make contraception more available to women who struggle with getting regular access to contraception. This is an attempt to mainstream anti-contraception sentiment by softening it, but the result—poor and underprivileged women losing access—is the same. …

Anti-choicers have a real love of pretending that they’re blocking access to birth control services for poorer people for their own good, often using overtly racist arguments to do so.

…the notion that family planning subsidies are controversial is a relatively new one in American politics.
