I wanted to do a round-up of the recent surge in Republican/conservative attacks on abortion. [bullet points with links]
…the post I wanted to write was about abortion, sexuality, and women's rights in America — but I realized that that post and the ensuing discussion would fall apart into derailing flames without *another* post, first. This is my post about some premises.
I can only call a person or organization "anti-abortion" if they are also pro-contraception.
…If you believe that birth control pills and IUDs are also infanticidal, that only increases your moral obligation to promote barrier methods such as condoms.
…because "pro-life" groups don't approve of contraception, I am forced to conclude that they don't really truly believe that abortion is murder, much less genocide — unless they think that contraception is *worse*, which not even the Catholic Church has been willing to come out and clearly say.

Grenada…does anyone even remember the tiny Caribbean island we invaded in the 1980s to keep Cuba from going all Communistic? The one that had a population of 100,000 at the time?
…The man already has an airport that had a perfectly good name, Washington National, re-named after him instead, and TWO frickin' postage stamps in the past 6 years. Enough is enough.
Just because George W. "broke" the GOP, conservatives have been forced to look elsewhere for heroes. …exhuming and embroidering on [Reagan's] reputation is easier than actually creating a platform, legislating like grown-ups, or creating jobs.
Take a listen to This American Life, where a group of schoolkids are literally shepherded (railoroaded?) into Reagan worship on a visit to his library. [link]

The right-wing media have seized on a Wikileaks cable to claim the Obama administration "betrayed" the United Kingdom by revealing data to Russia regarding the sale of nuclear material. In fact, the information was passed in compliance with nuclear arms treaties and "with respect to the longstanding pattern of cooperation," as officials in both the U.S. and U.K. governments have confirmed.

On Fox & Friends, Fox News legal analyst Peter Johnson Jr. claimed that "Shariah is the basis of all law in Egypt" and that "democracy and Islam" are "not compatible." In fact, Egypt is among the most secular countries in the Middle East, and several of the world's largest democracies are Muslim-majority countries.
