IBM and the City of Dubuque Join Forces to Build a Smarter Water Grid
[ReadWriteWeb - Audrey Watters]

IBM and the City of Dubuque, Iowa have teamed up to launch the Smarter Sustainable Dubuque Water Pilot Study. This project involves the installation of smart water meters, that with the help of volunteer citizens, will allow the city to collect and analyze data about water consumption trends and patterns. The goal of the study is to demonstrate how informed citizens can help make a city sustainable by encouraging behavioral changes that will result in conservation, cost reduction, and leak repair.

Christine O’Donnell Ad: ‘I’m Not A Witch … I’m You.’ (VIDEO) | TPMDC
[My impression of what O'Donnell stands for is that she's at the opposite end of the political spectrum from me in many many ways. I do think she deserves to be examined and even mocked for some of her positions.

But her spiritual leanings, and history thereof, are not in and of themselves any of the public's business, unless she has a problem with church-state separation. I do not at all like or support the left-wing sneering about O'Donnell's alleged witchcraft qua witchcraft.

A true progressive ought to be able to see that atheists and minority religions are all in the same boat in this country.

Foxifying America
[Hullabaloo - digby]

NY magazine is featuring an unusually insightful article about the Foxification of our politics and makes a number of observations that add up to something quite frightening…

You can call this "journalism" if you want, but I think we all know that it is something else entirely.

Student Responds to Whitman’s Criticism
[Calitics - Robert Cruickshank]

At Saturday's gubernatorial debate in Fresno held by Univision, an unidentified and undocumented honors student at Fresno State asked a question about the DREAM Act that, I argued, offered the most important moment of the debate. Whereas Jerry Brown made a strong moral defense of all California's children getting the chance to succeed in school and become citizens to contribute to our society, Whitman attacked the student and essentially told her she didn't belong in school and was taking the place of a California citizen.

Today the student has spoken out about the way her question was answered, in a press release from the California Young Democrats…

I stand with this student. I hope you do too.
