Landrieu: No Dice
[Talking Points Memo - David Kurtz]

The administration lifts the moratorium on offshore drilling, which was ostensibly the reason for Sen. Mary Landrieu's hold on the nomination of Jacob Lew to head up the President's Office of Management and Budget, but Landrieu says that's not good enough and that she won't release the Lew nomination.

Foreclosure Fraud Updates: Fannie and Freddie Plan to Penalize Banks, BofA Becomes Title Insurer
[Firedoglake - David Dayen]

Three of the four top lenders in the country revealed the exact same problem with robo-signers and faulty documentation. They all used MERS, the securitization system that has been called into question for its processes, confusing whether the lenders have clear title on many properties. The top lenders who have not yet admitted fault have admitted in depositions using a process similar to robo-signing. How much evidence do you need that this was routine industry functioning?

…We’re talking about mass document fraud in courts across the nation. You can try to localize it or otherwise excuse it away, but this fraud was perpetrated on the public, and now we’re supposed to worry about the effect on the financial industry? That’s the position I expect the securities industry to take, not the people’s advocate.

Women’s rights are divisive wedge issues
[Hullabaloo - digby]

[GOP Senate candidate] Ken Buck… is a very twisted, fundamentalist misogynist — and he's not the only one running for office as a Tea Party candidate. And while they may seem like outliers who don't really have an impact on American life, it's foolish to take that for granted. These people are mainstreaming ideas that up until recently were on the fringes of right wing discussion. It wasn't long ago, after all, that the idea that women at least have a right not to bear their rapist father's child was considered to be only common sense. A ban on all abortions, regardless of reason, is now on the mainstream menu.

[I was trying to tell myself, for the sake of being fair, that cosplay is cosplay, and when you have WWII historical reenactment, maybe someone has to dress up as a Nazi.

Never mind. It seems to hold true that cosplaying tends to reflect identification/sympathy.

Campaign Funding Seating Chart
[Sociological Images - gwen]

Robin M. let us know about an image at Mother Jones that apportions out seats in the Senate and House of Representatives not by state or party, but by financial backers. Dave Gilson asks, “What if members of Congress were seated not by party but according to the industries which gave them the most money over their entire careers?” Here’s the methodology used to create the charts:…
