The system actually did work yesterday. Bank lobbyists managed to swiftly get an innocuous-seeming, confusing but potentially debilitating bill through Congress, and were about to get laws made that could stave off the worst hits to their bottom line from the foreclosure fraud crisis. But individuals got agitated, made their voices heard, and the President refused to sign the bill…

However, Jon Stewart is right; the “win” of yesterday actually just got us back to square one. It retained due process for homeowners, but we’re still in the midst of a total morass, which no clear path out. Arthur Delaney had a roundup [link] of all the lawmakers pushing for moratoriums on foreclosure processes while this all gets worked out…

Meanwhile the horror stories continue to come out.
