  • Doctor Who Goes Too Far In Fan Service [Doctor Who]
It sounds like a joke, but the BBC is really offering fans a chance to get some TARDIS time, as long as their cosplay skills are up to snuff. Where have you gone, quality control?

[Why is this the end of the world? They've put fans on the show before-- e.g. the Blue Peter contest winner in Utopia. And, obviously, the quality control is that they aren't promising to air the scene with the fan in it, because it might suck and they don't want to embarrass anybody. It all sounds reasonable to me. --Lee.]

  • The 7 Deadly Sins Of Religion In Science Fiction [Rant]
…there are seven mistakes SF should avoid in portraying the spiritual realm.
    1. The cargo cult.
    2. The cheap Jesus.
    3. The dumb space gods.
    4. The all-purpose patch for lazy writing.
    5. Simplistic religion vs. science battles.
    6. Simplistic science-bashing in the name of religion.
    7. New-agey-ness.

  • Nic Cage Wants To Take You Higher With Science Fiction [Nic Cage's Gateway Drug]
Science fiction is the antidote to violence… or so says Nicolas Cage, explaining his recent conversion to scifi/fantasy, with movies like Knowing, Astro Boy and the upcoming Sorcerer's Apprentice.

[Interesting. A lot of people seem to think that tv/movie SF is supposed to have a lot of violence, but Cage suggests the opposite. I hope he can get the studios/writers/producers on board. --Lee.]
