Life purpose statement

Under the influence of Steve Pavlina, I’ve been working on a life purpose statement. I can’t quite seem to make myself cry, but since my propensity to cry varies from “at the drop of a hat” to “not if you cut off my leg” depending on my hormone cycle, I’m not sure if that means anything.

Anyhow, here’s what I have:

To fear and face all, to let suffering flower and pass through me, to pour my cup over the cold ground. To welcome truth and allow myself to be loved anew. To know abundance; to love like a goddess and sound a joyful yes to responsibility. To sing the divine in every soul, to ignite hope and burn like a thousand suns. To die and return as necessary. To inspire laughter and awaken compassion. To liberate health, celebrate sex, and unify the living earth.

Translation:

To fear and face all, to let suffering flower and pass through me,
Courage and resilience, not repression.
to pour my cup over the cold ground.
Libation. And in tarot, cups=emotions.
To welcome truth and allow myself to be loved anew.
To be forthright; to be known. Because without that, it really is impossible to receive love.
To know abundance;
To regard the world and myself as abundant/sufficient.
to love like a goddess
To live and hold ambitions and view the world on the scale of a divine being.
and sound a joyful yes to responsibility.
(I hope this doesn’t need translating because I can’t figure out how else to say it.)
To sing the divine in every soul,
My original turn of phrase was to wake the divine in every soul, but then somehow it became singing. Not-so-well-kept secret: I sing a lot.
to ignite hope
Because hope is a kind of power we all should have.
and burn like a thousand suns.
This is meant as a continuation of the hope=star imagery, but also it’s a reference to Tom McRae’s song, A Thousand Suns, about living in the now, in our mortal bodies.
To die and return as necessary.
To reincarnate as many times as necessary to achieve my purpose.
To inspire laughter
It’s something I want, OK?
and awaken compassion.
Because the world needs more of that.
To liberate health,
To liberate us from the economic pressures that keep us sick.
celebrate sex,
To reduce rape and other forms of sexualized exploitation, to liberate women and LGBTIQA’s, to educate people about sexuality and free the world from sexual shame.
and unify the living earth.
To oppose war and global warming.

[15 Oct 2008 - 3pm - Addendum to the meaning of "To know abundance":

I don't like to refer to our better or truer selves as "our higher selves" because then gravity is against us. I picture our better selves as below us, like sockpuppeteers. If we could see ourselves complete, I believe we would see all the sockpuppets leading down to one divine, many-handed being. This is why Pavlina's concept of "oneness" is so simple and intuitive to me even though I'm badly out of alignment with truth and love. I don't usually feel the implications of oneness in my life, but I know it's true.

Anyway, when I wrote "to know abundance", I meant that it is my purpose to know myself as a complete being, sockpuppet and sockpuppeteer.]
